Three academic staff members from the University of Technology-Iraq, Prof. Dr. Ahmed S. Abdul-Amir from the Computer Engineering Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Haider Abd Dhahed from the Mechanical Engineering Department, and Asst. Lect. Israa Abbas Jabr from the of Control and Systems Engineering Department published the research paper “A Neural Networks based Predictive Voltage-Tracking Controller Design for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell Model” in the Journal of Engineering. This work proposed a new development of predictive voltage-tracking control algorithm for the proton exchange membrane fuel cell model (PEMFCs) using neural network technique based on-line auto-tuning intelligent algorithm. The aim of proposed robust feedback nonlinear neural predictive voltage controller is to find precisely and quickly the optimal hydrogen partial pressure action in order to control the stack terminal voltage of the (PEMFC) model for N-step ahead prediction. |

A graduate student from the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Technology (Hala Jamal Hadi) has been awarded a Master of Science degree in “Automated Mobile Robot Movement for Pre-Defined Paths”, on 10 October, 2019 at the conference hall of the Computer Engineering Department. This thesis presents an indoor automated navigation method for wheeled mobile robot, In order to perform the necessary services like the ability to reach the places that can’t be reached by people. The proposed method is based on paths following, obstacle avoidance and localization part to ensure reaching targets to the required goal. The wheeled mobile robot which is controlled via Raspberry Pi3 microcomputer follows the paths for different distances in a predefined map which are constructed based on QR codes markers, these markers is placed at specific points and targets and contains information about the locations that needed to reach, it can be scanned using Raspberry Pi camera using image processing techniques which is supported by Zbar and open CV libraries. The distances between two points is measured using number of wheel's rotations which can be calculated using optical encoders. The obstacles are detected and avoided using obstacle avoidance algorithm which is supported by TOF technique to ensure safety returning the path. The mobile robot is connected wirelessly to local area network using Wi-Fi connection, in order to monitor the overall navigation via a privet website. Several programming languages (Python, PHP and Javascript) as well as (CSS and HTW) were used in web site and control operation during system design. The experimental results demonstrated that the system has safe and accurate, navigation in suitable conditions. The accuracy of distance easurement was 97% for the navigation on the flat surface and 80% for uneven surfaces. The discussion committee consisted of four members, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Qasim Ibrahim from the Baghdad University, College of Engineering, Electrical Engineering Department as Chairman, Asst. Prof. Dr. Safana Madhar Raafat from the University of Technology – Iraq, Control and Systems Engineering Department as a member, Dr. Nihad Ibrahim Abbas from the University of Technology – Iraq, Computer Engineering Department as a member, and Prof. Dr. Salih Mahdi Muarig from the University of Technology – Iraq, Control and Systems Engineering Department as a member and supervisor. |

A graduate student from the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Technology (Zahra Alaa Baqher) has been awarded a Master of Science degree in “Modified Dijkstra Algorithm with load balanced capability for SDN”, on 08 September, 2019 at the conference hall of the Computer Engineering Department. In her thesis, two senarios of SDN exploited data networks based on several criteria. In the first scenario, various algorithms were implemented like random load balancer (RLB) and round robin balancer (RRLB), and then weighted round robin round robin balancer (WRRLB) was used to to address the little utilization of servers and to increase the throughput ratio. In the second scenario, a dynamic load balancing based on SDN data center network topology was proposed in adaptive model for TE. Load balancing becomes dynamic as keep the algorithm running for continuous update of the information. Dijkstra’s algorithm was used to implement the load balancing in SDN application layer for optimizing link utilization in the networks, and the floodlight controller using in the control layer. The network was tested before and after running the load balancing algorithm. The result shows that the load balancing application increased bandwidth and reduced latency of network, in order to achieve a better result and higher performance of the network. This leads to better resources utilization as a result of using SDN. The discussion committee consisted of four members, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed E. Younis from the Baghdad University, College of Engineering, Computer Engineering Department as Chairman, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ammar A. AbdalKareem from the Al-Nahrain University, Information Engineering College as a member, Dr. Ahmed S. Kareem from the University of Technology – Iraq, Computer Engineering Department as a member, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed N. Abdullah from the University of Technology – Iraq, Computer Engineering Department as a member and supervisor. |
