In line with the vision and guidance of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Department of Computer Engineering held its second scientific workshop about the courses system on Tuesday, 9-April-2019, at the conference hall of the department. The workshop presented, the system’s objectives and requirements, the syllabi preparation mechanism, determination process of compulsory and elective courses (university, college, department), and defining each course prerequisites and unique code assignment mechanism. Furthermore, the workshop deliberating about the instructions for courses registration, the withdrawal mechanism, transfer of students, the cumulative average calculation, and students’ academic counselling. The discussion also included instructions about the student's university number, the examination process, and the students' absences. Furthermore, Asst. prof. Dr. Intisar A. Majid from the Elite University contributed her course system experience through a lecture. The department head (Prof. Dr. Eng. Ahmed S. Al-Araji) attended the workshop along with the other academic staff of the department. |

M.Sc. Eng. Nour A. Zghair, had been awarded a certificate of appreciation for her efforts in reviewing four research papers were presented to the “2nd Conference of Computer Science 2019 (SCCS 2019) Sponsored by IEEE IRAQ Section, March 27-28,2019, Baghdad”. The conference was held at the University of Technology – Baghdad, Iraq, and has been very successful in presenting participants applied scientific research. |

This workshop aimed to encourage both the students, and the graduates to develop their presentation skills. The workshop was presented by a team from Zain Iraq. by the end, presents and prizes were distributed to the attendees of the workshop. |

Prof. Dr. Eng. Hamed S. Al-Rowaishidi, from Brunel University London, UK, was invited to the Computer Engineering Department at the University of Technology to be a visiting professor to give a lecture on future research in Computer Engineering, Networking and Information Technology on Tuesday, 23-April-2019 as a part of implementing the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research governmental program. The lecture was presented in the presence of the department head, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ahmed S. Al-Araji, accompanied by his deputies, head of branches, and faculty members. The lecture was focused on developing the faculty members skills in the preparation of research in the department relevant engineering specializations. Furthermore, it introduced the useful mechanism to publish in the indexed, and reputed scientific journals. In addition, the visiting professor discussed the importance of constructing a specialized research center for communications and information technology to cope with the huge and rapid development in this field. All the presented topics were aimed towards serving the department, university, community, and our beloved country. |

In consonance with directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which includes the adopting of United Nations Office vision for a global strategy for disaster risk reduction. A seminar entitled "Disaster and its effects" was held in the conference hall of the Computer Engineering Department on Thursday, 2-May-2019. The seminar was presented by M.Sc. Baidaa A. Hassouni and M.Sc. Sajia Z. Khader to introduce the disasters types and the impact resulting from each type, then the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction was explained, which is one of the UN projects, for the period 2015-2030. |

The first applied scientific exhibition was held in the Computer Engineering Department at the University of Technology, in fulfillment to the requirements of the Iraqi market, to establish a link between the labor market and the student’s scientific projects, where more than 35 scientific and applied engineering projects constructed by the undergraduate students. The exhibition activities were started by the University President (Prof. Dr. Eng. Amin D. Thamer), in the presence of the department head (Prof. Dr. Eng. Ahmed S. Al Araji) with faculty members and students to view these projects which were supervised by the faculty members (Lecturer Mohammed A. Nadhum, Asst. Lecturer Ali Emad). The department staff introduced the best wishes for the students for further development and success to serve our society and our beloved country. |

A seminar entitled “The risks and treatment of addiction" was presented by lecturer Baydaa A. Hisouny, and lecturer Zehraa A. Hasan in the conference hall at the Computer Engineering Department on Thursday, 2-May-2019. The seminar emphasized on the importance of raising awareness for addiction and its effect on the physical, and mental health. In addition to these habit’s destructive role to the society, and the damage inflected by the addict to himself and to his family. Furthermore, the ways of treating this addiction has been discussed. |

A job interview was conducted by Huawei for Computer Engineering Department students, and graduates on Monday 15-April-2019 in the conference hall. The representatives of the company provided a range of jobs in the field of sales of smart devices, to give them employment opportunities to help them reach their potential and fulfill their positive role in the community. |

The football team of the Computer Engineering Department got the second rank in the championship of the President of the University of Technology for Faculty football. In the presence of the President of the University (Prof. Dr. Amin D. Thamer), the participating teams, and a group of faculties, the Cup was handed over to the head of the department (Prof. Ahmed S. Al-Araji) after the final game held on Thursday, 2019 on the football field at the university. |

Prof. Dr. Eng. Ahmed S. Al-Araji, the head of computer engineering department, had been awarded a certificate of appreciation for his efforts reviewing research papers, which were applied to the “2nd International Conference for Engineering, Technology and science of Al-kitab University 4-5 December-2018”. The conference was held at Al-kitab University, with the support of IEEE Scientific Foundation. Prof. Dr. Eng. Ahmed S. Al-Araji, was also registered as a referee for the next session of the conference, in recognition for his efforts in providing scientific insight and valuable guidance for researchers at the current session. |

Dr. Eng. Ahmed S. Kareem, the administrative assistant of the computer engineering department head, had been awarded a certificate of appreciation for his efforts in papers reviewing for the international scientific journal “IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics”, with Metrics of 9.31 Scopus CiteScore, and 8.803 clarivate Impact Factor. The scope of the journal includes such areas as computational intelligence, computer vision, neural networks, genetic algorithms, machine learning, fuzzy systems, cognitive systems, decision making, and robotics, to the extent that they contribute to the theme of cybernetics or demonstrate an application of cybernetics principles. |

A group of the third-grade students from Al-Farouk Vocational preparatory school (The Vocational Education Department / Al-Rusafa Al-Oula) visited the Department of Computer Engineering on Wednesday, 2 March, 2019. The visitors were given a brief overview of the department and its laboratories by the head of department administrative assistant (Dr. Eng. Ahmed S. Kareem), the network engineering branch head (M.Sc. Eng. Ammar A. Rashid), and the laboratories supervisor (M.Sc. Eng. Omar N. Mohammad), to inform the students of department scientific and practical potential. |

"Raban Al Safina Group of Companies" introductory Workshop

The Department of Computer Engineering held an introductory workshop about a group of the largest Iraqi-German companies (Raban Al Safina Group of Companies) on Sunday, 24 March, 2019, at the department’s conference hall. The workshop was given by a delegation from the company, whose purpose was to offer more than 100 jobs to graduates of the department, and other departments in the university, and the nomination for the jobs were according to the need of the companies. The attendance included the head of the computer engineering department, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ahmed S. Al-Araji, as well as a group of academic staff, and students of the department, in addition to a group of other departments students. |
